Write about a time when you realized that your perception of a particular food was based on a stereotype. Explain what the food was, what you originally believed about it, and where that belief came from. Then describe how your perspective changed after experiencing or learning more about the food. Be sure to include specific details about the moment your thinking shifted and what you learned from that experience.
Prompt Response: A time that I realized that my perception of a particular food was sushi. At first I thought it was only raw meat wrapped in the seaweed and I thought it would taste nasty. It changed when I went to Kroger yesterday and picked up a California roll with COOKED meat. When I got home Me and my mom tried it together and it was really good, it had a lot of flavor to it.
Summary: At first I thought sushi would taste nasty because I believed it was all just raw meat. After trying it yesterday, I realized that it was really good and that all sushi isn't raw, its cooked meat too.
Reflection: This experience taught me not to judge foods based on stereotypes. it showed that trying new things can change someones perspective and now I'm a lot more open to foods from other cultures.( I've already tried Jamaican, Mexican, and Chinese foods).
